Yuba industries is still manufacturing and rebuilding dredges when needed. Obviously not something the pictured machine could have mined or processed. If you have ever been on the lower LSD those 40 foot cliffs along the wash were a result of the Geraldine dredging. The picture doesn't show the actual dredge. The Geraldine was much bigger than the processing equipment shown in that picture. There is some evidence she might have been used on the Hanson placer (still being mined) and Malibu placer both just east of Hwy 60. The Geraldine was also used on the lower LSD west of the highway after mining on the upper LSD. She was named after the owner of United Placers Industries, the company who ordered the dredge from Yuba Industries. The dredge used in San Domingo was the Geraldine dryland dredge manufactured by Yuba Industries and delivered in 1961. There's Dry Blowers, but not a propelled drege. We went to a meeting where an old timer talked about how the lights in town would dim when they turned it on.I wonder if this is similar to the dry land dredge that operated in the San Domingo Area? The plan is to move the dredge closer to the hi-way and turn it into a tourist attraction. I was quite surprised to find some nice flakes in my pan and could see how a typical sluice box could bring quite a good amount. Restroom are located close to the prospecting and fishing pond. Read the regulations carefully, unfortunately they are very specific regarding equipment that you can use. For $10.00 a day or $100.00 a year you can get a permit to pan and sluice the creek and tailings which are practically everywhere. The town of Fairplay Colorado is a historic gold town with a gold panning area along the middle fork of the South Platte River.
